Andy Narine has developed a passion for birds, their environment and its protection. From 1996 to 2002 he worked as a tour guide at Dadanawa Ranch, in the remote South Rupununi of Guyana and obtained his knowledge and his ideas through research expeditions and Rapid Assessment Programs with international researchers Davis Finch (founder of WINGS International) and Smithsonian researcher Michael Braun, and through documentation of birds and communication with other researchers.

In 2004 Andy moved back to Georgetown and founded Guyana Amazon Tropical Birds (GATB), a vehicle to help preserve Guyana's avifauna and stimulate the interest of birding in others. He currently serves as the President of GATB, which is affiliated with the Guyana Environmental Protection Agency and has received funding through the Green Fund Micro-Project Grant to document the birds of Georgetown and conduct a Community Awareness Programme.
