Rainforest and Rupununi Experience

This experience combines the pristine beauty of the rainforest with the rugged landscape of the Rupununi savannahs.

Our journey begins from Georgetown with a flight over huge stretches of the rainforest and savannahs to Karanambu Ranch in the Rupununi. Karanambu is the home of Diane McTurk, who is well known for her work in rehabilitating orphaned Giant River Otters to the wild. The otters are of such interest that crews from National Geographic, Sand Diego Zoo, Wild Things, BBC and Yorkshire Television have filmed there.

Fishing at Simoni Pond is considered the best inland fishing available for Peacock Bass. An evening visit to Crane Pond is a highlight to see hundreds of Heron, Egret, Anhinga and Ibis roosting.

A boat trip on the Rupununi River can reveal groups of Wild Giant River Otters, a multitude of bird species along the bank, and near to Annai a Jabiru nest. The last stage is by jeep across the savannah to Rock View Lodge. Rock View is located where the savannah meets the forest covered foothills of the Pakaraima Mountains, from where there are fantastic views across the plains.

A short drive away is the village of Surama which is in a savannah clearing ringed by rainforest and mountains. Other Amerindian villages are within easy walking distance of Rock View.

After flying back to Georgetown you will be transferred by boat through the rainforest to Timberhead Rain Forest Resort.
