Nature Gone Wild

From birds, mammals, rainforest and mighty waterfalls to white sandy beaches and the blue waters of the Caribbean. Find it all in this unique mix of South America and the Caribbean : Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago

Tour starts any day.

Day 1 GEORGETOWN
Arrive in Guyana and transfer to Georgetown. Overnight at Cara Lodge.

Day 2 GEORGETOWN / SURAMA / IWOKRAMA
This morning you will transfer to the airport for a flight over the rainforest and savannah to Annai in the North Rupununi. Breakfast at Rock View Lodge. Transfer by 4x4 to the Amerindian community of Surama. Take a walking tour of the village, meet the village councillors, visit the school and the Amazon Project. The Amazon Project is designed to give employment to the women of the community by growing cassava and then manufacturing food items. Mid afternoon depart village for the two hour drive through the rainforest to Iwokrama Rain Forest Field Station on the banks of the Essequibo River. Overnight at Field Station. B, L, D.

Day 3 IWOKRAMA
This morning take an early morning boat ride on the Essequibo River for wildlife watching with an Iwokrama Ranger. After breakfast travel down river by boat and then walk through the rainforest to Turtle Mountain, which offers fantastic views over the canopy of the rainforest. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the forest. On the return trip visit Kurupukari Falls to see the Amerindian petroglyphs (dependent on water level). Then visit the small Amerindian village of Fair View before returning to the Field Station. Overnight at Field Station. B, L, D.

Day 4 IWOKRAMA / ROCK VIEW LODGE
Before dawn take a 4x4 along the road in search of jaguar, which are often spotted crossing the road. Return to the field station for breakfast. Take a morning walk along the trails leading from the field station with an Iwokrama Ranger looking for wildlife. After lunch take 4x4 back to Rock View Lodge. Relax in the refreshing waters of the Rupununi's only pool. Over night at Rock View Lodge. B, L, D.

Day 5 ROCK VIEW LODGE / KARANAMBU RANCH
Transfer by 4x4 across the savannah to Ginep Landing on the Rupununi River. Transfer to a boat for trip to Karanambu Ranch. Your hostess here is Diane McTurk, famous for her work in rehabilitating orphaned, giant river otters to the wild. She has been filmed by National Geographic and visited by the Calgary Zoo. Dinner with Diane will include stories on the history of her family and the Rupununi Savannahs. Overnight at Karanambu Ranch. B, L, D.

Day 6 KARANAMBU RANCH
Today join Diane as she tends to the resident orphaned otters. Explore the Rupununi River in search of wild Giant River Otters, Black Caiman and Arapaima. In the afternoon visit Simoni Pond for some of the best inland fishing in Guyana including Peacock Bass or explore the flooded forest (seasonal) or savannah with Diane. An
evening visit to Crane Pond to see hundreds of Ibis, Anhinga, Heron and Egret roosting is a highlight. Overnight at Karanambu Ranch. B, L, D.

Day 7 KARANAMBU RANCH / TIMBERHEAD RAIN FOREST RESORT
After breakfast fly back to Georgetown and transfer by boat on the Demerara, Pokerero and Kamuni Rivers to Timberhead Rain Forest Resort. This afternoon hike through the forest to the Amerindian village of Santa Mission, or take a small boat or canoe onto the small water ways surrounding Timberhead. After dinner float on the river in search of Caiman and water lilies which only open at night. Overnight Timberhead Rain Forest Resort. B, L, D.

Day 8 TIMBERHEAD / KAIETEUR & ORINDUIK FALLS / GEORGETOWN
Early morning transfer to the airport for a charter flight to Kaieteur and Orinduik Falls. Two hours on the ground, to explore one of the world's most spectacular waterfalls. The flight then continues over the mountains and savannah to the Brazil border and Orinduik Falls. Return to Georgetown. Overnight at Cara Lodge. B, L.

Day 9 GEORGETOWN / TRINIDAD - PAX GUEST HOUSE
After breakfast you will leave for Georgetown City Tour highlighting the unique architecture, markets, zoo and more. Transfer to airport for flight to Trinidad. On arrival at Piarco Airport transfer to Pax, a charming guest house nestled in the hills of the northern range. B, D or late snack.

Day 10 CARONI SWAMP
A leisurely morning, free to relax. Afternoon boat trip into Caroni Bird Sanctuary to view the glorious sunset flight of the Scarlet Ibis. Overnight Pax Guest House.

Day 11 ASA WRIGHT
A scenic drive through lush rainforest to the famous Asa Wright Nature Centre, for a guided interpretative walk before a delicious lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy an easy walk down the Marianne river to where it meets the Petite Marianne in a lovely waterfall and pool, perfect for swimming. Return to your hotel via the north coast road, with spectacular views of the wild Atlantic and windswept golden beaches. B, L, D.

Day 12 KAYAK NARIVA WETLANDS
Early departure for a kayak trip through the Nariva wetlands. Enjoy the rich bird-life and unique aquatic life; try to spot caiman basking on the mud banks, and monkeys playing in the treetops. B, L, D.

Day 13 TRINIDAD / TOBAGO
Morning transfer to Tobago. After a scrumptious local lunch, sit back and relax on the scenic drive along the east coast to the tiny fishing village of Speyside, on the north-eastern tip of the island. Overnight in Speyside Inn. B, L, D.

Day 14 LITTLE TOBAGO / GILPIN TRAIL
Just a short boat trip across the bay lies Little Tobago, also known as Bird of Paradise Isle. Fascinating and beautiful, it is the offshore breeding ground of many sea birds, including Red-billed Tropic Birds, Brown Boobies and Bridled Terns. After a delicious lunch, venture into the rainforest along the Gilpin Trail, one of the most popular ways of exploring the rich and varied flora and fauna of the Tobago rainforest reserve.  B, L, D.

Day 15 MAN-OF-WAR-BAY / CHARLOTTEVILLE
An afternoon boat trip on the calm clear waters of Man-of-War Bay, to a deserted goldenbeach for a sunset swim. As night falls, an unforgettable experience; cruise home towards the welcoming lights of Charlotteville, beneath a canopy of sparkling stars.

Day 16 RETURN HOME
Transfer to the airport to connect with your departing flight. B, L, D.
